چکیده

Abstract Introduction Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a clinical of dysautonomia associated with an excessive increase in heart rate following shift to standing posture. As 2019, POTS has prevalence 1-3 million (0.3-0.9%) the United States. Narcolepsy chronic neurologic condition persistent hypersomnolence irrespective total sleep time that also REM-sleep dissociative features (i.e., cataplexy, paralysis, sleep-related hallucinations). In recent years, viral infections have been established as trigger for both conditions. Methods A manual chart review was performed records from 11/1/2020 12/20/2022. The overall clinic population narcolepsy identified by searching electronic medical record ICD-10 codes G47.411 (narcolepsy type 1 [NT1]), and G47.419 2 [NT2]). past history these charts then searched identify patients separate all clinic. Results Of 1,433 population, 207 (NT1=73, 35.3%; NT2=134, 64.7%) 24 were identified. co-morbid 8.7% (18, 95% CI 5.2-13.4%); those POTS, 75% had (95% 53.3-90.2%). Co-morbid higher NT1 (13, 17.8% 9.8-28.5%) than NT2 (5, 3.7% 1.2-8.5%). significantly (1.26% 0.75-1.98%) general population. Conclusion especially subgroup. Clinicians should consider screening narcolepsy, vice versa. Further studies are warranted explore etiology POTS. Support (if any) N/A

Postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS).

INTRODUCTION POTS is defined as the development of orthostatic symptoms associated with a heart rate (HR) increment >or=30, usually to >or=120 bpm without orthostatic hypotension. Symptoms of orthostatic intolerance are those due to brain hypoperfusion and those due to sympathetic overaction. METHODS We provide a review of POTS based primarily on work from the Mayo Clinic. RESULTS Females p...

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)--A novel member of the autoimmune family.

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a heterogeneous disorder of the autonomic nervous system in which a change from the supine position to an upright position causes an abnormally large increase in heart rate or tachycardia (30 bpm within 10 min of standing or head-up tilt). This response is accompanied by a decrease in blood flow to the brain and hence a spectrum of symptoms as...

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and vitamin B12 deficiency in adolescents.

OBJECTIVE Vitamin B12 is involved in the production of adrenaline from noradrenaline. It is the cofactor involved in catecholamine degradation and plays a role in myelin synthesis. The current study aimed to investigate the association between vitamin B12 levels and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) during adolescence when accelerated myelin synthesis increases the vitamin B12 ne...
